Kai Sun is a Chinese-American costume designer, theater artist, filmmaker, and fine artist based in LA and NYC. Born and raised in the Bay Area, he graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where he received a Drama BFA under the Playwrights Horizons Theater School and Production and Design Studio with a minor in Film Production. His work aims to investigate the intricate relationship between the personal and the world, often seeking out power, opportunity, and magic in the mundane as a means of re-imagining our constructions of truth.
Kai’s work has been seen in venues of all sizes, from off-Broadway to film festivals. In 2024, his costume design work for the TV pilot Marvin Is Sorry was shown at the SXSW Film & TV Festival, which won the Independent TV Pilot Competition Jury Award.
